My buddies and I all got into a local art show called 1st Thursdays held at the Orlando Museum of Art (a.k.a. OMA). As the name states, OMA has a one night art show, along with food and drinks, the first Thursday of every month.

It was my first time showing at 1st Thursdays and I was stoked. Unfortunately even though my wife and I brought a camera and camcorder, we didn’t shoot anything. We got so caught up in the moment that it never entered our minds to take pictures and shoot video. I’ll do it for the next one.

There’s another 1st Thursdays that I want to submit work for on September 6. Here’s the theme info:

Rojo: Life in PANTONE® 485 Red

For this Hispanic-inspired event, artists are asked to create a contemporary work [not limited to an Hispanic theme] using PANTONE® 485 red and/or shades and tints (percentages) of this red, along with black and white.

The max number of pieces one can display are 3. So I hope to have 3 new pieces to submit by the deadline on August 3rd.

Update: Unfortunately since I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had a chance to put something together for the “Rojo” show. The next OMA shows I can enter aren’t until February and June 08. But I am working on some current projects for GIANT and other local gallery shows. Stay tuned.

This applies to illustration, graphic design, animation and comics as well. Here’s the link to copy and paste if you need it: http://www.wired.com/culture/lifestyle/commentary/theluddite/2007/06/luddite_0621

Here’s an excerpt:

But opportunity and desire alone do not professional historians or journalists or pundits make. There’s this process known as “learning your craft” and “paying your dues” that all professionals must endure. Sorry, but trolling the web and blogging from your darkened study doesn’t qualify as on-the-job training.

I wish I could do this at work. It would be nice to get back to drawing comps especially since I didn’t get to do as much as I would have liked.

Here’s an excerpt:

So we literally went back to the drawing board, employing some brilliant “old school” visualisers to hand render, often intentionally roughly, our concepts. And a few great things happened: the visuals took a fraction of the time to render; we were able to explore more creative routes (meaning “more” as in a greater variety and “more creative” as in more adventurous); and our clients focused solely on our ideas, didn’t get hung up on details and almost invariably approved a concept.

Apparently the word fanboy is supposed to be derogatory:

fan•boy [1 fan+boi]
noun
informal derogatory - an obsessive male fan (usually of movies, comic books or science fiction)

Proud fanboy! Especially since MegaCon’s in town. Yes, it’s not the mother of all comic-cons, but it will do for now.

On a different note.

This is too funny. Thinking of getting it.
