Mark Progression

My daughter has been scribbling with crayons for a little while now. But as of late, I’ve noticed that the scribbling has evolved. She’s doing swirls and exploring lines. She’s even begun stippling; and all this without my help.

She’s also creating shapes with her line. Not the typical circle, triangle and what not. She creates very organic shapes. I’ve even gone in and finished some of her shapes and turned them into sketches. Kind of like that game where one person creates a shape and the other converts it into a drawing.

I’ve tried sitting down with her and showing her how to create marks, but she just won’t have it. She wants to do what she wants to do. She has a very strong ego and is somewhat independent.

I wonder if she’ll find interest in the arts like daddy, or if she’ll prefer animals like mama. She loves animals. Maybe she’ll balance both. A marine biologist and illustrator. Interesting mix.
