First Moleskine

After reading so much from other illustrators’ blogs about how the Moleskine is one of the best, if not the best, sketchbook around, I finally broke down and got one. I haven’t been one for small sketchbooks because I like the freedom of sketching on large real estate. But the idea of a small, portable sketchbook has always intrigued me. Besides, I think it would make me more versatile since it forces me to sketch under several conditions. And I get used to carrying a sketchbook with me all the time.

I bought a watercolor Moleskine since I want to get more into watercolors (and just painting in general). I also wanted to buy the 5″ x 8.25″ sketchbook but they were out of stock so they put me on a list to let me know when they’re in stock again. In the meantime, I’ll use the watercolor book.

I finally broke it in today and so far I love the paper. I used a portable Kuretake watercolor brush and simple Prang watercolors for coloring. For the outlines I used a Faber-Castell Artist Pitt brush pen. Below is my first sketch in the watercolor book.
